I quit taking guitar lessons after the first month !!!

Yep ... it's true . I stopped taking lessons after my first month !!! My teacher was a nice old grandfatherly kind of fella . He had zero interest in helping me learn to play any music that I liked . Instead , he stuck me in a Mel Bay Book 1 . If you can count to four , and read English, you can teach yourself how to sight read ... which I did .... I went through all seven Mel Bay books , and scores of addition books on sight reading , improvisation , music theory , and the like . Had my teacher been willing to help me learn some cool music , I would have stuck around ... I'd have even been willing to burn the candle at both ends , and sight read for part of the lesson . 

I learned a valuable lesson from those first four lessons  - I always design a lesson plan around my student's musical interests , no matter what they are . All styles and genres of music have validity and merit in my opinion
